 Our Team

It all started with….

co-founders Kalisi & Angela who are sisters based in Hilo. They wanted to create opportunities for their farming business. They decided to use to their professional skills to create programs for farms statewide that would help to explore the concept of agritourism as a responsible alternative to conventional tourism that would minimize impact on the environment while strengthening local agricultural businesses in Hawai’i.

Kālisi Mausio

Founder, Chief Executive Farmer

“I’m a farmer and an entrepreneur who wants to see our farmers succeed because together we can ensure that we can thrive in an ever-changing climate and economy.”

Kālisi is an entrepreneur, a farmer, researcher, mapper and a mother of twin Polynesian dragons. She is the founder of the regenerative enterprise Hawaii Farm Trails, and is the co-owner of Kaivao Farm, an agroforest based on Hawaii Island. Recently she was a Phd student candidate focused on modeling indigenous food crops such as breadfruit. Through crop modeling she sought to understand how environmental conditions and farming practices influence how much carbon is stored or lost in a given area. She was previously at NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management where she helped address coastal management issues ranging from watershed restoration, to coastal hazards and climate resilience and adaptation. Kalisi received her M.S. in Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Hawaii, Hilo. Her B.A. in Geology and Environmental Studies was received from Bowdoin College in Maine. She was born and raised in the Kingdom of Tonga and has since lived and worked over the last 20 years in Fiji, New Zealand, and now Hawaiʻi.
